CJ Monias

Oji-Cree - Eeyou Istchee
James Bay Region

CJ Monias is an Oji-Cree comedian from Eeyou Istchee (James Bay Region) in Northern Quebec. CJ’s first experience performing comedy was in 2014 in his home community of Chisasibi opening for Don Burnstick. Since then, he worked as a music artist and produced for upcoming Indigenous talent all over Canada. In 2022 he began performing comedy again when he was invited to perform at an Indigenous comedy showcase in Winnipeg Manitoba where his performance was met with much praise. In 2023 CJ decided to take his comedy full force and perform in the local Montreal comedy scene. CJ describes his style as being influenced by comedians like Steven Wright, Mitch Hedberg, Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Sugar Sammy, Russell Peters, Jim Norton and Patrice O'Neal. CJ is a huge fan of JFL’s The Nasty Show and Funny As Hell and Comedy Central’s Roast series and Roast Battle competition. CJ has performed in Montreal, Hudson, Laval, Vaudreuil, Thunder Bay and Toronto, among other places. Delivering unapologetic and unabashed humor about dealing with racism, relationships with cougars and stoner thoughts about the internet, CJ’s open window approach to comedy has won over non-Indigenous crowds and earned him spots as one of Montreal’s favorite newcomers. With insatiable laughs, be prepared to see why he’s been called a must-see after hours delight!
